In the past four seasons we have had 41 players in our organization to move onto the college hockey level: 19 to NCAA Division 1 Schools (Arizona State, R.I.T., Brown, Cornell, Colgate, Union, Alaska Fairbanks, U. Mass. Amherst, Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech., American International, Army and Denver), 4 to NCAA Division 3 (Middlebury N.E.S.C.A.C., Saint Thomas M.I.A.C., Wisconsin-Superior UMAC and SUNY Canton U.S.A.C.C.), 7 players to the N.A.I.T. Ooks, 1 player to the S.A.I.T. Trojans, 1 to Keyano College (A.C.A.C.), 1 player to Portage College (A.C.A.C.), 2 players to the U of A Augustana Vikings (A.C.A.C.), 1 player to the Concordia Thunder (A.C.A.C.), 2 players to Red Deer College (A.C.A.C.), 1 player to the U of Regina (C.I.S.), 1 player to the University of Guelph (C.I.S.), 1 player to the University of Calgary (C.I.S.) and 1 player to the Grant McEwan Griffins (A.C.A.C.). 

This past year Ryan SYMINGTON won the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Most Dedicated Player which is the fourth major (AJHL) league award honor for our organization in two years. In the past three years our organization has had 9 league award nominations. Jake GRESH was nominated as a finalist for the AJHL Most Outstanding Rookie this season.

This season we also obtained the third most wins and third best goal against number in our 25 year franchise history. We also led the Alberta Junior Hockey League in short-handed goals for. Rick SWAN was an Assistant Coach for Team Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Championships. Rick was also named the head coach for Team West at the CJHL (NHL Central Scouting) Top Prospects game in Cornwall, Ontario.

Former Bonnyville PONTIAC Spencer FOO (2012-2014) is a 2016/17 ‘top 10 finalist’ for the NCAA Hobey Baker Award and will be signing an NHL contract this off-season.

The Bonnyville PONTIACS have placed a bid for the 2018/19 RBC Cup Championship which will be announced this upcoming May.

In 2015/16 the Bonnyville PONTIACS surpassed franchise records with winning percentage (.742), most games ever won (40), most points (89) and least number of losses (11). There were four major AJHL award nominations for Most Valuable Player; Most Outstanding Defenseman, Most Dedicated Player and Coach of the Year which was also a franchise record.

Forward Bobby McMANN (Colgate) won the AJHL Most Valuable Player and was nominated for the CJHL Most Outstanding Forward.

Defenseman Brinson PASICHNUK (Arizona State) won the AJHL Most Outstanding Defenseman and was nominated for the CJHL Most Outstanding Defenseman.

Rick SWAN won the AJHL Coach of the Year for the AJHL Most Outstanding Coach and was nominated as for CJHL Most Outstanding Coach.

Both Bobby McMANN and Brinson PASICHNUK won a gold medal with Team Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Championships. Brinson PASICHNUK was also listed 115 on the NHL Central Scouting List.

In 2014/15 the Bonnyville PONTIACS broke a number of 23 year-old franchise records for their best second half; number of play-off games played in a single season; most wins in a play-off year; first time in the AJHL North Division final; highest attendance (single game of 2300 and post-season total of over 13,000). Ryan BLACK was as a finalist for the AJHL Most Outstanding Defenseman, Brinson PASICHNUK for Most Outstanding Rookie and Rick SWAN was nominated as a finalist for the AJHL Coach of the Year.

The PONTIACS are an exciting team on the rise having three of their best seasons in franchise history the past three years and they have one of the best reputations of treating their players better than anyone else in Junior ‘A’ hockey. We believe that the Bonnyville PONTIACS can offer one of the best opportunities to players with respect to their on and off-ice development and their success beyond Junior ‘A.’ Our current fan base average is 800.

General Manager and Head Coach: Rick SWAN

Coaching Career: This will be Rick's 6th year with the PONTIACS and has been the Bonnyville PONTIACS Head Coach and General Manager since 2013; Previously hired as the Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach with the Bonnyville Pontiacs in 2012; 2017 was named as Head Coach for Team West in the 2017 C.J.H.L. (NHL) Top Prospects Game in Cornwall, Ontario;  Rick was awarded the 2015-2016 'AJHL Coach of the Year' in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Rick was nominated as a finalist for the Canadian Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year in 2016 and in addition to also being nominated as a finalist for the 2015 A.J.H.L. Coach of the Year; in 2015 Rick was a guest coach with Team Canada West (WJAC); 2016 Assistant Coach for Team Canada West for the World Junior 'A' Challenge; K of C PATS Midget AAA Head Coach from 2008 to 2012; 2008/09 won the AMHL Midget AAA “Glen SATHER” Coach of the Year; 2007/08 won the league Midget AAA Minor Coach of the Year; Two time 'back-to-back' Sherwood Park Kings Club "Ken HITCHCOCK" Coach of the Year (2004/05 and 2005/06) in addition to winning the Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Coach of the Year (2003/04); 2009/10 received the K of C Hockey Merit Award for Contribution to Coaching ; in 2011 was recognized as the Edmonton Police Service Community Kiwanis Top Cop Honorable Mention; in 2011 was selected for the Canadian hockey coach exchange with the Chinese Ice Hockey Federation to mentor, present and instruct coaches in that country; involved with Hockey Alberta (Alberta Cup, U15, U16 and U17 teams); Hockey Alberta Mentor; coached in the 2011 Western Challenge Cup - Gold Medalist (Team Alberta U16); was the Head Coach and On-Ice Administrator of Louis St. Laurent High School Hockey Barons Skills Academy 2009 to 2012.

So far through Rick’s tenure, 41 Pontiac players have committed to College and Universities across North America.

Rick was extended to a long term contract in 2015 to remain as the PONTIACS Head Coach and General Manager.

Playing Career: Lake Forest College Foresters (Illinois) N.C.A.A.- top scorer / Cole Harbor Junior A Colts  - MVJAHL (Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia) / U of A Golden BEARS - Canada West University (CWUAA) Scoring Champion (Dave Sweeny Schriner Trophy); Alberta Golden Bears Assistant Captain and Canada West All-Star / CIS Championship / Professional - Germany Bundesliga - Essen, Germany.

Education: High Performance 1 Hockey Canada - N.C.C.P. 3; Bachelor of Physical Education / Recreational Administration Major degree from the University of Alberta.
Personal: Originally from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Rick makes his home in Bonnyville with his wife, Susan. They have two sons, Spencer and Redford. Spencer works and lives in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Redford, a former Bonnyville PONTIAC, is third on the all-time number of games played (214) and currently attends Grant McEwan University in Edmonton and played for the A.C.A.C. Champion N.A.I.T. Ooks in 2014/15. He currently plays for the ACAC Grant McEwan University Griffens.

Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach: Larry DRAPER
Coaching Career: Larry will be entering his 5th season as the Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach with the Bonnyville Pontiacs and spent time in an Assistant Coach capacity with the Spruce Grove SAINTS for 3 years prior to being with the Pontiacs. Larry was recently awarded the pretigious South Side Athletic Club 'Lifetime Member' honor for his outstanding contributions to coaching minor hockey within the city of Edmonton; Larry is a two time AMHL “Glen SATHER” Coach of the Year (2013 and 2008) and one of only two individuals to have ever received the prestigious award; KC PATS Midget AAA Head Coach  in 2012/13 ; Associate Coach KC PATS 2008 to 2012; Over 25 years of coaching elite level hockey including 9 years of Midget AAA and 6 years Bantam AAA; was the Louis St. Laurent High School Hockey Academy Senior Skills Instructor from 2009 to 2013; was the head coach who progressed the SSAC to the Midget AAA TELUS Cup Nationals in 2005; That same year Larry coached the AMHL Midget AAA Champions and the Midget AAA Pacific Regional Champions; Larry was also a guest coach with Hockey Alberta’s Under 17 Team Pacific Program from 2006 - 2009; Team Pacific Scout 2007/08.

Larry was extended to a long term contract in 2015 to remain as the PONTIACS Associate Coach and Assistant General Manager.

Education: Advanced 1 Hockey Canada; N.C.C.P. 3.
Personal: Originally from Sherwood Park, Alberta with his wife Grace, Larry now resides in Bonnyville. Larry has three sons Dustin, Cody and Dana.

Director of Player Personnel and Procurement: Jeff TETZ
Coaching Career: Jeff was hired as the Bonnyville Pontiacs Director of Player Personnel eight years ago in 2009. Jeff has been instrumental in identifying and bringing quality players with character into the PONTIAC organization over that time. Jeff is also a main staple of why the Bonnyville PONTIACS continue to be a team and program "on the rise." Jeff has an impressive hockey coaching background which includes the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Okotoks Oilers and the Fort Saskatchewan Traders. Jeff was also the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (AMHL) Head Coach from 2004 to 2006 as well as the Spruce Grove REGALS (CJHL) Head Coach in 2002-2003; the Edmonton River Kings (CJHL) Co-Coach in 2001-2002; the Fort Saskatchewan Chevy’s (CJHL) Assistant Coach from 1998 to 2001. Jeff is reflective of the Bonnyville PONTIAC Culture: integrity, professionalism, trust, loyalty and pride.

Education: Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta.
Personal: Jeff currently resides in Edmonton, Alberta and works with where he mentors organizations on performance management and maximizing results.

Assistant Coach: Mark JENSEN
Coaching Career: Mark joined Bonnyville Pontiacs as Assistant Coach in 2013.

Playing Career: Mark played 96 games in the Alberta Junior Hockey League of which 49 were with the Bonnyville PONTIACS under Coach Chad MERCIER. Mark is an exceptional coach with outstanding communication skills along with an incredibile ability to develop character and leadership with young players. Mark has also been an instructor at the Black Elk Hockey Camp since 2007.

Personal: Originally from Swift Current, Saskatchewan Mark now lives in Bonnyville, Alberta. Mark works for Rusnack Financial as a Financial Consultant. Mark attended and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan as well as attended the Högskolan Jönköping University in Sweden.

Assistant Coach: Craig CUTHBERT
Playing Career: Craig, who is originally from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, is a former PONTIAC captain while in the A.J.H.L. (93 games - 70 points). Craig was also the captain of when he played for the University of Regina in the C.I.S. (103 games). Craig was drafted in the first round (20th over-all) in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft. Craig won a WHL Championship in 2004/05 while with the Kelowna Rockets and had a Memorial Cup appearance. Craig also played with the Saskatoon Blades and in total, played 171 WHL regular season/play-off games.Craig's leadership traits and people skills are second to none and his experience in Junior and University as a recognized captain/leader, are reflective of the tremendous culture present in the Bonnyville PONTIACS organization.

Personal: Craig works for Baker Hughes and lives in Bonnyville with his wife Christina. 

Goaltender Consultant / Coach / Scout: Kelly BROOKS

Kelly BROOKS is a former member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears from 1982 to 1985 winning two Canada West Championships. Kelly also played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the St. Albert Saints and the Calgary Royals. Kelly is one of the brightest "goaltender minds" in hockey. Kelly works with goaltender evaluation at the Top Prospects and Main Camps which includes developmental feedback. In addition, Kelly will work with goaltender development in Bonnyville throughout the season.

Kelly teaches and promotes "Head Trajectory" developed and created by Lyle MAST, which trains the value of efficiency and quality vision along with balance, to achieve consistent and optimum performance, by eliminating delays in movement, rotation and access to the puck.

Neil LANGRIDGE: Assistant Coach / Western Canada / U.S.A. Scout
Neil has been an extremely successful coach winning four straight North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (NEAJBHL) championships as a Head Coach and General Manager. Neil is also involved with Hockey Alberta’s Program of Excellence with the Alberta Winter Games and the Alberta Cup. His hockey experience and knowledge makes Neil an extremely valuable member of the Bonnyville PONTIACS organization and he has had great success in bringing top players to the Bonnyville PONTIACS organization. Neil has a solid reputation for developing his players and always has time and energy to devote to mentoring and being an everyday learner.

Athletic Therapist / Equipment Manager: Karyn FANSTONE
Karyn was hired by the Bonnyville Pontiacs this season and is a Certified Athletic Therapist and spent the two seasons with the Drayton Valley THUNDER prior to joining the PONTIACS organization. Karyn is also the Athletic Therapist for Team Alberta at this year’s U16 Western Challenge Cup Championship as well as the Team Trainer for Team Northeast at the 2016 Alberta Cup. Prior to working in the A.J.H.L. Karyn worked with the University of Manitoba Bison Women’s Hockey Team in the same capacity.

Education: Bachelor of Kinesiology with a Major in Athletic Therapy from the University of Manitoba. Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association. Karyn also trained with the New York RANGERS and Winnipeg JETS Athletic Therapist Internship Program in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Business and Office Manager: Kim ROCQUE

Bonnyville PONTIACS Business and Office Manager who is in charge of: Volunteers / Game Day administartion / Book Keeping / Special Events / Tickets / Advertising / Sales / Marketing / Community Events / Grants. There are too many 'hats' to mention for what Kim does for the organization.
Personal: Kim is a Bonnyville resident has grown up in our community and is an instrumental part of the Pontiac Organization's success.

Hockey Operations Advisor: Dennis FONTAINE

Hockey Operations Advisor, Player Evaluation and Play-By-Play / Color. Dennis is a major part of the Pontiac organization and is heavily involved in a Hockey Operations advisory role and mentor. Dennis' son Justin (a former Bonnyville PONTIAC) currently plays for the Minnesota WILD of the N.H.L.

Voice of the PONTIACS / PONTIACS Media Relations : Robb HUNTER

Kool 101.3 Play-by-Play and "Voice of the PONTIACS" / In addition, Robb is involved in sales, marketing and advertising with the PONTIACS. Robb is also on our Board of Directors and looks after PONTIAC Media Relations duties including social media. Robb is the 'best in the business' and is renowed thoughout Canada having been involved with every Hockey Canada national championship event as well as the World Jr. A Challenge and the U20 Evaluation Camps. Robb is also 'spear-heading' the 2016 World Junior 'A' Challenge in Bonnyville.

After receiving countless accolades for his brilliant play-by-by skills with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, Robb is invited to various world-level hockey tournaments every year to detail every play of every period. Robb HUNTER was asked (yet again) to be the voice of FAST Hockey at the 2016 Junior 'A'' National Championship RBC Cup. Robb is regarded as the 'best in the business' and his list of accomplishments at the national level are extensive.

Alberta U16 / U18 Director of Scouting and Recruiting
Jason is the Director of Families and Youth at Calvary Lutheran Church and has been in Youth Ministry for 20 years. Jason is also the Assistant Golf Professional at Redtail Landing Golf Club and has been involved in hockey as a coach and scout for the past 20 years. Jason coached with the Team Alberta program at the Alberta Cup and Alberta Winter games winning Gold Medals at both the Alberta Cup and Alberta Winter Games. From 2013 to 2015 Jason was the Director of Scouting for Pacific 4 Sports and in 2016 was a scout for Hockey Prospects scouting WHL for the NHL Entry Draft.

As a scout Jason finds it rewarding to be a part of a player’s hockey journey to help players reach their potential and achieve their goals. “I joined the Pontiacs as my wife and I value the culture and purpose that exists in this organization. We are excited to partner with everyone involved to help young men reach their full potential in both hockey and life and to see them become successful members of our communities” says Jason. Jason is married to his wife Anne who is a Psychologist with Alberta Health Services and has a dog named Sophie.

Saskatchewan and Alberta Director of Scouting, Recruiting and Junior ‘A’ Transactions Advisor
Dean Moisan was the Director of Player Personnel with the Lloydminster Bobcats and was their Head Scout during their RBC birth in 2015/16. Dean also spent three years as a Head Scout with the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and another 3 additional years as a scout with that organization. In that time, he was a part of the 2012 Broncos team which hosted the RBC Cup and a number of SJHL championships. Dean's experience in Humboldt and his extensive knowledge of local players in Saskatchewan and Alberta along with numerous coach contacts make him a valuable addition to the organization. Dean was also part of the midget elite program in Lloydminster as a coach for years. Dean lives in Lloydminster with his wife and two daughters.

Eastern Canada Director of Scouting, Recruiting and Junior ‘A’ Player Evaluation

Pat was a former QMJHL scout that knows the behind the scenes portion of the game of hockey, both from a management and business perspective. Pat is currently the Director of Hockey Operations and Advisor for Quebec and Ottawa Regions for The Hockey Group. Teams that Pat worked for include:
• Acadia – Bathurst Titan, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Quebec Major Junior League
• Princeville Titans and La Tuque Loups (QJAAAH) as a Director of Scouting
• Trois-Rivières Caron & Guay and Saint-Georges (LNAH) as an Assistant General Manager, Assistant Coach and VP. of  Hockey Operations

Pat has developed many great contacts and close personal connections over the years and has extensive knowledge of players in Quebec and Ottawa regions.

Calgary Area and Southern Alberta Director of Scouting, Recruiting and Junior ‘A’ Player Evaluation

Jeff was involved with the Calgary Mustangs organization in the capacity of General Manager and Head Coach for over eight years and is the owner/trainer/consultant of Pucks Hockey Development. Jeff Richards has been involved in hockey for over 40 years as a player, coach and scout. As a player, he enjoyed a successful junior career followed by four years at the pro level. As a coach, Jeff has worked with all ages and skill levels, from community to quadrant, junior to professional.

New England (U.S.A.) Scouting and Recruitment / Assistant Coach

Jason FOURNIER and Adam WATT

As a player Jason played in the WHL (Tri-Cities) and AJHL (Fort Saskatchewan) as well with Mount Royal University. He is engrained in the coaching community with the Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey Association has great knowledge of the game. Jason lives in Fort Saskatchewan with his wife and 3 children.

Adam has his MBA in Sports Management from the University of Alberta and has experience in contract research on current and forthcoming negotiations on standard NHL player contracts. Adam is the current Director/Vice-Chairman of the Edmonton Sport Council and also worked with the Edmonton Oilers and FC Edmonton and now currently works for Edmonton Northlands. /

Tyrel SPITZER and Garrett MEGER

Tyrel is the Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Northern Alberta Extreme Midget Elite program and has an extensive hockey coaching and scouting background in the Edmonton area at the rep level.

Garrett works as an Infrastructure Designer for the MMM Group Limited in Edmonton and is also coaching with the Northern Alberta Extreme program. Garrett has also been a part of the Team Alberta program at the Alberta Cup.
